USPF spikers suffer contrasting fates
CEBU, Philippines — Teams from the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USPF) walked down different kind of roads in the Mayor Edgardo Labella Cup Volleyball Open at the Cebu City Sports Institute.
In the women’s division, the USPF volleybelles pounded the University of Cebu (UC) in straight sets, 25-14, 25-17, to take the temporary leadership with a clean 2-0 slate.
In the other game, two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player Cherry Ann “Sisi” Rondina lived up to expectations after she carried Team Maria to its first win via a 25-20, 25-21 drubbing of Harbor Pilot, 25-20, 25-21.
On the other hand, Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma bounced back from its first day loss but had to pass through the wringer first before edging past the J&J Angels Enterprises, 32-30, 20-25, 25-9.
In the men’s play, however, USPF stumbled once again, this time at the hands of Fiesta People, 25-22, 25-18.
Fiesta People now shares the lead with Sports Yu, which also went 2-0 after crushing SWU-Phinma, 25-14, 23-25, 25-16.
The other men’s result saw Mischka whipping UC, 25-17, 25-22.
