Charity basketball for fire victims

CEBU, Philippines — The city government of Cebu through the office of councilors Dondon Hontiveros, Edu Rama and Philip Zafra will be spearheading a charity basketball match for the benefit of fire victims this Friday at the Cebu Coliseum.

Game time is set at 6 pm.

Hontiveros, a former PBA star and future Hall of Famer, will banner the former and present crop of University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters who will be going up against the reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) champions Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras in the goodwill encounter.

Hontiveros and Randy Pogoy, a mainstay of Gilas Pilipinas who plays for the TNT KaTropa in the pro league, will see action alongside UC collegiate stars Paul Galinato, Darrell Shane Menina, Luigi Gabisan, John Calvin Jabello and Ice Blanco against the Lamine Thiam and Shaquille Imperial-led Cobras of coach Mike Reyes.

“I am also inviting June Mar Fajardo and Brian Heruela to join us. Hopefully, they could make it,” said Hontiveros, undoubtedly one of the brightest stars Cebu hoopdom has ever produced.

“It always feels good to help others especially those who are in need,” added Hontiveros. “I am egging on the Cebuanos to support our worthy cause.”

Hontiveros said proceeds of the fund-raising event will be donated to the victims of fire that hit barangays  Inayawan, Duljo Fatima and T. Padilla just weeks apart from each other.

Tickets are priced at P30 for the general admission, P60 for the upper box, P120 for the lower box, P150 for the courtside and P200 for the VIP section.
