Mercado and Vergara raring to put on a show

Lemuel P. Maglinte - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Two veteran mixed martial artists Joseph ‘The Wolf’ Mercado and Edmund ‘Slasher’ Vergara both promised an all-out war when they clash head-on in the main event of the maiden edition of the Cebu Fighting Championship dubbed as ‘The Wait’ on December 30 at the Buanoy Sports Complex in Balamban, Cebu.

Mercado, fighting under the banner of Yaw-Yan ArDigma Cebu, hopes to make an impression as he wants to build his dream of fighting in a bigger stage like the One Championship, Asia’s biggest MMA organization.

“My dream is really to make it to ONE Championship. I have been fighting for many years and I want to experience fighting in big MMA events,” said Mercado. “I trained hard for this fight. Vergara is a veteran like me so expect an all-out war when we meet inside the cage.”

Mercado must brace for an action-packed battle as Vergara expressed confidence in getting the win either knockout or submission.

“I have experience a lot in this sport. I am serious in getting the win in Balamban,” he said.

In the supporting bout of the slambang card co-presented by Lapunti Arnis de Abanico International, comebacking kickboxing prospect Renan ‘Limbas’ Noblefranca of Yaw-Yan will go up against Jestoni ‘Silent Killer’ Borres of JB Dream Fitness Gym in a kickboxing match.

In a special attraction, Mactan Combat Sports’ Nino ‘Pitbull’ Saoy battles Mark ‘Noble Striker’ Balaba of Iligan Gan Suo do.
