Cebu downs GenSan in MPBL
CEBU, Philippines — Playing before their hometown fans always brings out the best of Cebu Casino Ethyl Alcohol.
Drawing stellar performances from William McAloney and Kraneil Viloria, Cebu outlasted the visiting GenSan Warriors, 72-66, in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Lakan Cup last Saturday night at the Aznar Coliseum of Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma.
McAloney, who was picked by the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA Draft recently, posted a solid double-double show of 19 points and 15 rebounds while Viloria finished with 16 points, six assists and two rebounds as Cebu raised its win-loss record to 10-12 but still stayed at the No.10 spot out of 15 teams in Southern Division.
Rhaffy Octobre added 11 points and nine rebounds including a 3-pointer that gave Cebu its biggest lead, 71-63, with only 1:47 left to play.
It was a big turnaround for Cebu, which trailed by six points at halftime, 28-34. But inspired by the fervent cheers of their loyal followers, Cebu countered with a 23-15 rally in the third stanza to seize the upper hand, 51-49, for good.
Robby Celiz dropped 26 points on top of eight rebounds and two assists but to no avail as GenSan suffered its second straight loss and eighth overall in 23 games.
