CEPCA prevails over LLCC in goodwill encounter
CEBU, Philippines — The members of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) led by their president Engr. Jerry Maratas outlasted their counterparts from the Lapu-Lapu Chess Club (LLCC) headed by Stephen Rosales in their 21-board goodwill games last Sunday at the Barracks Chess Club in Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
The Cepcans completed the two-round battle with 25 points as against LLCC’s 17 points.
They outclassed the LLCC bets in the first round, 13-8, then finished them off via a 12-9 decision in the second round.
Skippered by Maratas, Team CEPCA is composed of National Master Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Antonio Cabibil, Loyola, Venancio, Reynaldo Flores, Martin Sean, Edward dela Torre, Mario Bustillo, Michael Tinga, Joselito Loques, Leo Cortez, Rafael Perez, Richard Ouano, Edwin Cablao, Norman Olayvar, Bong San Pascual, Bob Inocian, Filemon Kapuno III, Manny Manzanares, Jojo Muralla, Jun Pasion, Victor Sepulveda, Nic Cuison, Zilverstein Torres, and Gabby Misterio.
Meanwhile, Bryle Arellano of LLCC pockected P1,500 for ruling the blitz tournament with 5.0 points.
Ruel Nuttal and Reynaldo Flores of CEPCA and Allan Pason of LLCC finished with 4.0 points each but Nuttal took the second place honors by virtue of his superior tie-break output. - EBV
