Batang Pinoy TCC athletes reap more golds

Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines —  Team Cebu City added nine golds, seven silvers and seven bronzes to its medal haul in Day 2 of the PSC- Batang Pinoy National Championships yesterday at the Speaker Ramon Mitra Sports Complex, here.

In the unofficial medal tally, Cebu City now leads with 11 gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals. Laguna Province is at second with six golds, eight silvers and two bronzes, while Davao City has 5-2-7 gold-silver-bronze medals.

TCC dominated the dancesport event after collecting three golds, four silvers and two bronzes at the Palawan National School.

John Lloyd Leyson and Ouie Selene Rendon led the charge after bagging the gold in the junior A latin plus a silver in the standard event.

Kharl Michael Minoza and Sofia Isabelle Maree Quilaton, for their part, snared the gold in the juvenile A latin and bronze in the standard action, while Sean Alexavier Baclay and Jannah Marie Pugoy gave TCC its third gold via the junior C standard.

Meanwhile, Dylan Jacob Kazer Esmero and Ashley Cullo delivered a gold medal for Mandaue in the juvenile D latin and bronze in the juvenile C latin.

Aldrener Igot of Don Carlos Gothong Memorial National High School also shone for TCC with a double gold medal in the 20-meter and 30-meter cub events.

TCC kickboxer also handed two gold medals through the efforts of Zion Melecio in the 54 kgs. and Josh Ybañez in the 51 kgs. division.

In weightlifting female lifter Joan Egos topped the 40-kilograms category with 46-kilos in the snatch, 53-kilos in the clean and jerk and a total of 99 kilograms.

Egos’ teammates Paul Vincent Mondaya (32 kgs.) and Jun Dominic Bohol (43 kgs.) snared silvers, while Kelvin Fernandez settled for a bronze also in the 43 kgs. Igot’s teammate Khalil Jusper Abella settled for bronze in the 20m action.

Over at the oval, Kenneth Malaya of the Abellana National School snared the gold in the 110-meter run.

Malaya registered the fastest time in 15.7 seconds beating his teammate Jumar Cumabig (16.7), who settled for silver.

Juliana Loberanis, who opted to do cycling instead of athletics, claimed a double bronze.

Meanwhile, Lapu-Lapu City arnisadors delivered early with a gold via the traditional individual single weapon.  Cebu Province also registered its first gold after Gio Beguna dominated the shot put with 12.94m.
