Warriors, Panthers try to bolster Final 4 bid
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Landmasters-University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers seek to brighten up their Final Four chances as they take on separate foes in the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Partner’s Cup at the Cebu Coliseum today.
USC will lock up horns with the Tough Gear/Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats in the main game at 7 p.m. while USPF will go up against the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the 5:30 p.m. opener.
The Warriors and the Panthers currently share the fourth spot in the seniors division standings with identical 3-5 win-loss cards.
On the other hand, the Jaguars carry a 2-7 record while the Wildcats are at the tailend of the leaderboard with only one victory to show in eight games.
That left the Warriors and the Panthers in a tug-of-war battle for the fourth and last semifinal spot.
With a perfect 8-0 slate, the ARQ Builders-University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers are poised to emerge as the elimination round topnotcher that will arm them with a twice-to-beat advantage in the next stage of the tournament.
The No.2 spot is hotly contested by the 6-2 Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras and the 6-3 Joemang’s Surplus-University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters. (FREEMAN)
