Villaroca leads champions in Poblacion Occidental hoopla

CEBU, Philippines —  Team Villaroca pulled off a hard-earned 74-72 victory over Vendredi to win the seniors division championship in the Poblacion Occidental Inter-Sitio Basketball Tournament at the Consolacion covered court.

Art Pepito almost singlehandedly carry Villaroca to crowning glory with 30 points while Daniel Pepito chipped in 16 markers.

Archie and Allan Abrasado connived for 26 points in a losing effort for Vendredi.

On the other hand, Christian Malagar dropped 27 points and Andrew Isoto scored 18 as the Reuyan Compound escaped past  Capao Compound,  88-84, to snare the midget crown, while Joel Brigoli talied 25 points and John Velasquez added 18 as Ibabao bested Little Tokyo, 76-72, to grab the juniors title.

Not to be outdone, Ibabao edged Pandayan, 70-61, to lord it over the mini category, thanks to the 38-point explosion of Vince Pastorfide backed up by James Herrera with 16 points.

Named MVPs were Vince Pastorfide (mini), Andrew Isoto (midget), Kevin Ray Tejada (juniors) and Daniel Pepito (seniors).

They were joined in the Mythical Five by James Herrera, John Sanchez, Justin Pamas and Francis Isoto (mini), Christian Malagar, Reyal Fernandez, Ivan Pilapil and Raymund Neiz (midget), Godfrey Sabanal, Mark Jesus Pepito, Joel Brigoli and Gio Garces (juniors), and Art Pepito, Albert Capao, Mayolito Judilla, and Archie Abrasado (seniors).

The two-month tilt that was among the highlights of Poblacion Occidental’s annual fiesta in honor of their beloved patron San Antonio de Padua was organized by SK chairman Cassey Maglasang and councilors Gio Harces and Mike Kevin Maglasang, Mark Niño Gonzaga served as commissioner.
