SMS-Boystown dominates Aloysian weightlifting
CEBU, Philippines — The Sisters of Mary School (SMS)- Boystown lifters flexed their athletic muscles well as they harvested gold medals in the inaugural Aloysian Open Invitational Tournament Weightlifting competition the other day at the SMS- Boystown Campus in Minglanilla.
Jefrel Malagar led SMS-Boystown’s charge after snaring two golds in the 49 kgs. division.
Malagar registered a 115-kilogram lift to top his division followed by Emmanuel Jao (100-kgs.) in silver and Leonel Goce (95-kgs.) for bronze.
Malagar lifted 55-kgs. in the snatch category to bag his second gold medal while Jao got his second gold in the clean and jerk after lifting 60-kgs.
In the 55kgs. division, Gabriel Tacuyan snared the gold with 110-kilograms total while Reggie Norte (105-kgs.) and Michael Inocando (105-kgs.) settled for silver and bronze, respectively.
Tacuyan also dominated the clean and jerk category after lifting 65-kgs., while Norte topped the snatch with 45-kgs.
Robert Ponlaon, for his part, reigned supreme in the 61kgs. division with 125-kgs. total. He claimed his second gilt in the clean and jerk with 70-kgs lift.
Visiting lifters from Dumaguete also stole part of the limelight. Marjun Magludas snared the 67 kgs. gold, while Jeremiah Herera reigned supreme in the 71 kgs. class.
