Gloreitta T. Lariosa - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The CDOC PWD of Cagayan de Oro City became the first team to clinch a title in the Cebu City Dragon Boat Regatta 2019 after they topped the 200m paradragons category yesterday at The Coast of IL Corso in South Road Properties.

CDOC PWD, a cross-disability dragon boat team, clocked in 58.17 seconds in the second heat to post the best time overall after two heats. In the first heat, the Cagay-anons also came out the fastest 1:00.66.

Kujaw Tiger Dragons of Cortes City, Surigao Del Sur registered 1:00.75 to claim the second place honors, while Busay San Carlos City settled for third with a time of 1:03.83.

Meanwhile, race organizer John Paul Maunes said the PADS Adaptive Dragonboat Racing Team will have an exhibition game with the new paragdragon teams along with their Under-13 paddlers to celebrate their success in gathering some PWDs to compete under one division.

“We will celebrate this victory that we were able to surpass what we thought was impossible and the vision to put the PWDs (persons with disabilities) in the mainstream of sports,” Maunes said.

Also scheduled today are the semifinals and finals in the premier open, mixed and women’s categories.
