UV, SHS-Ateneo book two CYBL finals berth

CEBU, Philippines — The University of the Visayas and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu booked two championship berths each in the Cebu Youth Basketball League 3rd Conference 2018-19 after scoring semifinal round wins over the weekend at the SHS-Ateneo Mango Avenue campus gym.

UV will go for the championship of the Division 1’s Under 12 and 15 age groups. They face SHS-Ateneo for the Under 12 age group after defeating Don Bosco Technical College, 80-24. SHS-Ateneo rallied to eliminate Sisters of Mary School-Boystown, 37-26, to bag the other finals berth.

UV will also play for the championship of the Under 15 age group after defeating SHS-Ateneo 1, 49-36. They face off against the dangerous University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) team that toppled SHS-Ateneo 2, 59-35, in the other semifinal match-up.

Meanwhile, SHS-Ateneo guns for the championship in the Under 18 age group after surprising Southwestern University-Phinma, 38-28. They play the tournament’s Cinderella team Cebu Province/Sisters of Mary School Boystown after the Alloysians upset Don Bosco, 44-28, in the other semifinal game.

In Division 2 games, UV will face Don Bosco in the Under 10 age group finals after winning over USC South, 47-24. Don Bosco eliminated CLBA, 35-24.

UV also made it to the finals of the Division 2’s Under 12 age group after beating Coach A, 64-54, and will face USC North-B, winners over One on One A, 33-23.

In the Under 15 age group, CIT-U defeated Don Bosco-B, 43-39, and will go up against JunMeds, a 53-43 winner over One on One A.

Batang Panalay, a sister team of SMS-Boystown, will play in the finals of the Under 18 age group after trouncing UV Main-B, 62-38. They face the Spartans after the latter ousted SACS, 70-44.
