Tibod rules Jazz Chillin’ rapid chessfest
CEBU, Philippines — Bonn Rainauld Tibod swept all his assignments to rule the Jazz Chillin’ Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2019 over the weekend at the Jazz Chillin’ Restaurant and Music Lounge along Rahmann Street in Barangay Zapatera, Cebu City.
Tibod finished the 7-round Swiss system competition with a perfect 7.0 points to pocket the P6,000 champion’s purse. Among his notable victims were International Master Kim Steven Yap, National Master Merben Roque, and FIDE Master Anthony Makinano.
IM Yap and Jave Mareck Peteros both finished with 6.0 points but Yap took the P4,000 second prize by virtue of a higher tie-break output.
NM Roque and Yves Christian Fiel occupied the fourth and fifth spots with 5.5 points.
Rounding up the top 14 finishers were Diego Abraham Caparino, Richard Natividad, Anthony Makinano, Michael Joseph Pagaran, Allan Salientes, Bryle Arellano, Redentor Nailon, Richard Gohetia Sr., and Joel Pacuribot with 5.0 points each.
The National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP)-sanctioned event was presented by Jazz Chillin’ Restaurant and Music Lounge through Atty. Raul Padilla in partnership with the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) under the leadership of Engr. Jerry Maratas and The Barracks Chess Club of Engr. John Velarde.
