SBP to spread out 3x3 basketball to Cebuano youth

Rico Navarro - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Beyond the goal of trying to break a world record, Chooks-to-Go and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas are spreading the sport of 3x3 basketball to the youth of Cebu.

From January 11 to 13, Chooks-to-Go and the SBP will be heading to Sister of Mary Boystown and Girlstown in Tungkop, Minglanilla in Cebu to teach the young dreamers the sport.

This event will serve as the jumpstart for the country's first-ever 3x3 basketball league, Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3.

"We are grateful to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, especially Executive Director Sonny Barrios, for always supporting our endeavors," said Bounty Agro Ventures Inc. president Ronald Mascariñas. "We have always supported them as well.

"With this event, we, together with the officials of our league, will teach the young kids of Cebu this rising sport that hopefully will catch on," added the sports patron.

The goal of this event is three-fold.

First is, of course, to spread the growing sport of 3×3 basketball. Second is to break the world record for most number of kids playing 3x3 basketball.

Moreover, all the participants will be registered to the FIBA 3X3 Play app to help the country accumulate points to raise its world ranking to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Besides this, Chooks-to-Go will make a donation to the foundation.

"Sister of Mary is very close to our hearts. That is why we are going all-out to inspire our young brothers and sisters there," shared the amiable executive. "We are bringing one of our ambassadors Kobe Paras and our coaches there to help spread the Manok ng Bayan mission."
