Tatluhan chessfest this weekend
CEBU, Philippines — It's green and go for the Salon de Rose Tatluhan Open Chess Tournament this weekend at the Barracks Chess Club in Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
Cebuno pawnpushers will surely have their hands full as out-of-town players from Tacloban, Bohol and Dumaguete have already confirmed their participation in the two-day tiff that is expected to draw at least 30 teams.
The Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association will also be fielding in a strong team and will try to duplicate its championship feat during the recent Boy Pestaño Tatluhan Tournament, according to CEPCA founding member Jun Olis.
Each team shall be composed of three players with an average National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) rating of 2500.
The champion will take home P20,000, the second placer will pocket P12,000, while the third to fifth will receive P8,000, P5,000 and P3,000, respectively. The sixth to 10th will each get P1,500.
US-based Cebuano Grandmaster Enrico Sevillano and his stepson International Master John Daniel Bryant may opt to play or just grace the event sponsored by chess patron Benjamin "Bojie" Lim.
Entry fee is pegged at P1,000 for early registrants and P1,200 for those who will enlist on-site.
