For those who can break Philippine marathon record 7-Eleven offers P1M bounty

MANILA, Philippines — Half a million pesos is at stake for Filipino marathoners in the male and female division, who can break the Philippine record in the 7-Eleven Run Series 2019 slated on February  3 starting and ending at the Cebu Business Park.

This was announced by Jun Ang, 7-Eleven General Merchandise Division Head, during the event launching yesterday at the 7-Eleven Visayas Regional Office.

"We will be giving away half a million bonus cash prize to runner who can break the Philippine national record in both the male and female. It is not easy to compete in a full marathon race so we want to give them an inspiration and added boost," said Ang.

Two-time Olympian Eduardo Buenavista and national team member Christabel Martes are the current record holders with a time of 2:18:44 and 2:38:44, respectively.

The Cebu race is one of the legs to be staged simultaneously in a day. The other areas are Manila and Davao.

Aside from the 42K full marathon, other categories to be contested include 32K, 21K, 16K, 10K, 5K, 3K and 500m dash for kids.

"The 7-Eleven Run was created to help nurture future runners specifically from the grassroots. We want to find for new breed of runners that could represent our country in international races. With this, we invite everyone even the old-time and foreign runners to join us and participate in this event."

The organizers will also award the overall top three runners with the best times for all-Filipino male and female category in 21K and 42K. As added incentives, they will be given an all-expense paid trip to a chosen international marathon in Asia.

The champion in the 42K will pocket P25, 000, P22, 000 for the 32K, P20, 000 for the 21K, P15, 000 for 16K, P10, 000 for 10K, P7, 000 for 5K and P5, 000 for 3K.

Entry fee is pegged at P400 for 500m, P500 for 3K, P600 for 5K, P700 for 10K, P800 for 16K, P1000 for 21K, P1, 200 for 32K and P1, 500 for 42K. Registration forms are available at all 7-Eleven stores. One may also register online at wwww.run711.com.
