CEBU, Philippines — Over a hundred pinbusters from all over the country will vie for top honors in the 10th CETBA-NBT Open Bowling Championships, which kicked off the other day at the SM City-Cebu Bowling Center.

The six-day tilt that also serves as the last leg of the National Bowling Tour (NBT) this year features the open masters and seniors masters (50-above) categories.

“This is our 10th bowling tournament hosted by CETBA and we feel that we need to show to the nation that CETBA Open Bowling Tournament is alive and kicking,” said CETBA president Eric Bucoy during the tournament’s opening ceremony last Tuesday.

CETBA vice president Docdoc Gothong, for his part, said this is the largest edition of the tournament since its inception in 2008.

“Every year we grow by numbers especially with the junior players,” said Gothong.

In terms of the competition, Gothong said it will be exciting and tough for both local and visiting players, yet still it is anyone’s game at the end.

Meanwhile, the simple opening rites was graced by Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) chairman Ed Hayco and Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) executive director Atty. Ramil Abing.

“We want to develop our youth to be healthy in terms of mental, emotional and physical health. Mao rana ang katuyuan sa lalawigan sa Sugbu. In behalf of the governor, we assure you that we are very supportive with activities like this,” said Magpale.

The final round of the seniors masters will be played on Saturday morning, while the open masters finals is set for Sunday.

The champion will pocket P80,000 in the open masters and P40,000 in the seniors masters.
