UC Webmasters shoot for fourth straight win

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters will try to solidify their hold of the solo collegiate division lead as they lock up horns with the slumping Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats in the 18th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men’s basketball tournament today at the Cebu Coliseum.

Following the 61-70 loss of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers to the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars last Tuesday night, the Yayoy Alcoseba-mentored Webmasters at 3-0 remain as the only unbeaten team in the seniors level.

The Webmasters are a shoo-in to extend their hot steak to four games in a row as they go up against the seemingly toothless Wildcats, who are still listless in four games.

Armed with a formidable lineup led by all-around import Frederick Elombi and a vaunted four-man guard rotation in Justine Dacalos, Paul Galinato, Darrell Shane Menina, and John Calvin Jabello, the Webmasters are tipped to decimate the Wildcats without any trouble in their 5:15 p.m. encounter.

In the main match at 6:45 pm, two-time defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers of coach Gary Cortes hope to stay on a hot comeback trail when they square off against the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras.

Since a shocking back-to-back defeats to start their grandslam campaign, the Lancers are on a roll right now, winning their last two games against the Wildcats and the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors.

The Cobras, on the other hand, are coming off two consecutive losses since kicking off their bid with a lopsided triumph over the Wildcats last August 25. (FREEMAN)
