Cebuana lifter to don Philippines colors in Indonesia tiff
CEBU, Philippines — Up and coming Cebuana lifter Giselle Anne Betua is among the five young Filipinos who will be representing the country in the Bali Satria Remaja International Open Championships Pre-Youth and Youth International Weightlifting Championships 2018 slated on July 29 to August 7 in Denpasar Bali, Indonesia.
Betua will be competing in the 53 kgs division, according to coach Ramon Solis.
“Bag-o, bag-o pa ni siya pero naay dakong potential. Unya siya ray taga Cebu karon na napilian para aning sa event in Indonesia,” said Solis.
Betua, who hails from Barngay Carreta, Cebu City, will be joined in the Phl team by Tagbilaran’s Vanessa Sarno, Zamboanga’s Rosegie Ramos, and Manila’s Linett Hipolito and Paolo Rivera.
Solis, a former Olympian, will be the head coach, while Mark Alino will serve as both team manager and head of the Philippine delegation.
Before leaving for Indonesia, Betua will have her final tuneup via the Cebu Weightlifting Association’s National Students Championships and the CWA Affiliated Women’s Open Invitational tomorrow at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.
