Sorongon, Lee dominate Megawear Half Marathon

CEBU, Philippines — Veteran long-distance runner Ruffa Sorongon and Prince Joey Lee emerged as the fastest in their respective divisions of the first Megawear Half Marathon yesterday morning at the SM City Cebu grounds.

Sorongon clocked in one hour, 30 minutes and 28 seconds to rule the women's division followed by Evamie Villarin at second in1:36:03 as Rue Reinhardt Panibon settle for third in 1:39:43, clocking.

Lee of Spectrum Runners Club, crossed the finish line in one hour, 16 minutes and 16 seconds to snare the men's title and at the same time beat Kenyan Eric Chepsiror, who registered a time of 1:19:39 . Paul James Zafico wound up third in 1:20:16.

In the 10K action,  Kenyan Eliud Kering and Melody Perez ruled their respective classes.

Kering made up for Chepsiror's defeat as he topped the men's division with a time of 33:15. Joseph Arner Emia (34:31) and Ariel Saballa (34:44) finished second and third.

Perez, for her part, finished first in 41:23 to win the women's side, while Joan Alinsunod (42:05) and Cherry Andrin (44:31) occupied the next two spots, respectively.

The top three winners in the 5K race were Karen Andrea Manayon (19:37), Lourence Yvory Garcia (20:32) and Moira Erediano (21:36) in the women's class, while Dwight Galolo (17:28), Herbert Helarcosa (17:32) and Marl Adrian Baguio (17:39) in the men's division. (FREEMAN)
