UV jrs. trounce CEC for third straight win
CEBU, Philippines — The University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers decimated the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons, 91-62, for their third straight win in the 2018 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Partner's Cup yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
High-leaping forward Joshua Yerro dropped 19 points and Gabriel Cometa added 18 markers as the Baby Lancers sustained their hot comeback after an upset loss to the Organique California-University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers during their first game.
After a lukewarm start, the Baby Lancers used a searing 27-11 rally in the second period to tear the game apart at halftime, 44-27.
The Baby Lancers grew even hotter as the game progressed on the way to establish an insurmountable 30-point advantage, 81-51, at the final five-minute mark of the contest.
John Banzon added 16 points for the Baby Lancers, who are currently at third spot in the juniors division standings with a 3-1 slate behind the 3-0 Baby Panthers and the 2-0 Hotel Fortuna-University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters. The Dragons fell to 1-3.
Earlier, Kenrick Abarquez and Niño Paras unloaded 16 points each at the Casino Active/University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars launched a decisive endgame attack to turn back the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildkittens, 89-81.
The Baby Jaguars improved to 2-2, while the Wildkittens suffered their third loss in a row. - EBV
