Minglanilla's reign ends; Tuburan makes graceful exit

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Minglanilla Archangels kissed their title retention bid goodbye in the 2nd Cebu Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities and Municipalities Under-21 Developmental Basketball Tournament.

This came after Argao bested Sibonga, 93-88, at the close of the South Division Cluster C quarterfinals last Thursday night at the Cerge M. Remonde Memorial Sports Complex in Argao.

Minglanilla, Argao, and Sibonga actually figured in a triple tie with 1-2 win-loss records but Sibonga punched the remaining semis ticket by vitue of a higher tie-breaker applying the Olympic quotient system.

Sibonga thus joins the Talisay City AquaStars, Barili and Alegria in the final round of four in South Division that will start on June 23.

Up North, Tuburan edged Balamban, 98-90, for a graceful exit in the province-wide tournament spearheaded by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC).

Tuburan's victoty also shut down the semis hopes of Balamban.

The Final Four cast in the North that will slug it out beginning June 26 are the Consolacion Sarok Weavers, Medellin and islander teams from Bantayan and San Francisco (Camotes).—EBV
