North champ Consolacion starts hot in Governor's Cup hoop

CEBU, Philippines — Defending North Division champion Consolacion Sarok Weavers opened their bid with a 113-89 drubbing of Carmen in the 2nd Cebu Governor's Cup Inter-Cities and Municipalities Under-21 Developmental Basketball Tournament on Monday evening at the Danao City Civic Center.

In the main game still under the North Division Bracket 1, host Danao City pulled off an equally lopsided 103-69 win over the debuting Cordova.

Marco Booker Panta, Japet Naingue, John Paulo Dalumpines, and Emmanuel Villamor combined for 22 points as Consolacion raced to a 27-20 start.

Consolacion further ripped the game apart with a 32-17 blast in the second period for an imposing 22-point bulge at halftime, 59-37. It was cruise control for the Sarok Weavers the rest of the way.

 Villamor paced Consolacion with 19 points, Naingue contributed 18, Leobert Andrew Casinillo added 12 while Froilan Maglasang finished with 10 points for the winning side.

John Fritz Banzon scattered a game-high 27 points in a losing effort for Carmen.

Over at the Balamban Sports Complex host Balamban hammered the listless Asturias, 86-61, to earn a share of North Bracket 3 lead with a clean 3-0 record, while Bogo City improved to 2-2 after edging Tabuelan, 59-54.

Down South, Governor's Cup Season 1 champion Minglanilla Archangels finally barged into the win column after beating Carcar City, 77-68, while the Naga City Electrifiers survived an endgame scare to squeak past the San Fernando Spartans, 73-71, in South Division Bracket 1 played at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.

Over at the Argao Sports Complex, Sibonga extended its unbeaten run to three games after shooting down the Alcoy Siloys, 86-83, while Argao made an impression before its hometown fans after prevailing over the Dalaguete AgriSaurs, 75-67. — EBV
