The heat is on!

EVERY POUND COUNTS - Alan G. Choachuy - The Freeman

You know that it's summer already when you can feel the scorching heat as early as 6:30 in the morning.

But this doesn't mean you can lay on your bed or frolic in the beach all day. The best and wisest thing for you to do is to get up, get your body moving! Embrace the summer heat with countless of fitness activities.

Kicking off the summer is the 7th edition of Coach-A Summer Metabolic Fitness boot camp at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu. It started last Tuesday with 120 participants who were given workout jersey plus freebies courtesy from Casino rubbing alcohol, Omega pain killer and Astacs multivitamins. On top of that, cool prizes await the top male and female participants who will lose the most weight after eight weeks of torrid workout. Each participant will also get a finisher's medal but will have to accomplish the number of attendance required and complete a variety of fitness challenge. For those who want to join this meaningful fitness journey, you can still drop by and register the Terraces Ayala on Tuesday at 530 pm.

On the other hand, Cornerstone 8080 has a series of races this summer, starting off with the DX3 Off-Road Triathlon this April 15 in Kawit, Medellin and on May 20 in Marangog, Bogo City. It's something different, but it is still a race. For the bike section, you will need your mountain bike as you will be in a suprise on the bike trails. The race features a sprint distance of 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run. Registration is set at P2, 800 for individual and P6, 000 for relay. The May 19 tilt also features the 2nd Oceanic 10km swim. Entry fee is pegged at P5, 000 for 10km, P3, 000 for 5km and P1, 000 for 2km. On April 29, Cornerstone goes to Baybay, Leyte for the  8080, 4040 and 2020 (for kids) triathlon events. The 8080 distance covers 1km swim, 65km bike and 14km run.

Kids 2020 triathlon is something new and is good for grassroots development. It will take place at the Visayan State University (VSU) grounds.

If you are not trained to swim, be not afraid. You can join the the Tayud Duathlon in Consolacion on April 15. It's a 5km trail run, 20km mountain bike, and finishes off with a 3km trail run. I have tested the mountain bike trail and oh boy, it's hard and technical! It's a 3-loop circuit complete with technical downhill, single track and some brutal uphills. The registration though is only Php 500 and you get a finisher's shirt, medal and snacks.

And if these events are not challenging enough for you, then you can join the Gorilla boot camp race on May 5. It covers approximately 5km run, with 14 challenging obstacles spread along the race course. Registration is set at P1, 500. For now, the obstacles are still on construction phase and will be ready for testing in a few weeks. This obstacle race or challenge is something new for Cebu and should not be taken lightly. Organized by coach Junrey Andales and his team, he promises that aside from being a challenging race, it will be fun as well.

So what is your excuse? The heat is on! Challenge yourself, don't be a prisoner of your own excuse. Let's do this!
