Bautista, Nietes to meet rivals today

-

Expect verbal jabs to fly today as the chief protagonists of the hotly-anticipated “WBO Night of Champions” card meet face-to-face in the pre-fight news conference starting at 11 am at the Agean room of Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

A resurgent Boholanon ring warrior Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista and Donnie “Ahas” Nietes will take centerstage in the explosive double-header presented by ALA Promotions in association with ABS-CBN Sports this Saturday at the Pacific grand ballroom of Waterfront Hotel.

Bautista will risk his WBO Intercontinental super bantamweight title against Eden Marquez of Mexico, while Nietes, the first world champion from Cebu’s fabled ALA Stable, will defend his throne for the first time against Eddy Castro of Nicaragua.

Marquez and Castro showed they’re in fighting form and wowed the crowd with their flashy skills in a public workout yesterday at the ALA Gym-Banilad Town Center.

In the must-see undercards, a bevy of rising ALA Gym stars are all set to treat the Cebuano fight fans to another highly entertaining night of fistic action. They are WBO  Asia Pacific Youth lightweight champion Jason Pagara, super bantamweight Jomanz Omanz, bantamweight Ray Las Piñas, and light flyweight Jercion Mancio.

Pagara will go up against Thai prizefighter Kongdej in a battle of youth against experience. Pagara is 14 years younger than the Thai visitor.

Mancio, who hails from Esperanza, Agusan del Sur and the jr flyweight champion of last year’s television series “Idol: Search for the Next Pinoy”,  will face an Elorde Stable fighter Mario Sison.

Las Piñas, on the other hand, will take on Gedion Amba of Lapu-Lapu City, while the odds are stuck against Omanz as he clashes with former WBC International bantamweight champion Roger Galicia.

Tickets are available at the following outlets: Island Souvenirs (231-2581), USA Sports (232-1854), Bisaya Ispisyal (231-2676), ALA Gym in Banilad Town Center (416-2011), ALA Gym- Mactan (340-9470) and ALA Promotions office (346-3489).

For reservations, one may keep in touch with Jeana at 0928-5057980 or Brent at 0917-3253005.
