Special session called for Charter Day bonus

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has urged the City Council to have a special session to finally approve the Charter Day bonus for the employees.

This came after learning yesterday, during the flag ceremony, that the supposed Charter Day bonus has not yet been received by the employees.

The mayor was discussing organizing a recollection for the City Hall employees and the importance of reflections.

While telling them to do their jobs well and not to only think about bonuses, the employees told the mayor in return that they have not yet received any as promised last month.

The Charter Day bonus is at P15,000 each for the regular employees.

The mayor emphasized that the bonus is for the families of the employees who are mostly poor.

Rama went up to the city councilors present to speed up the promises.

“Paspasi ninyo duol ng eleksyon…No, no no, paspasi ninyo, do a special session, come on! The poor cannot wait, think about it…special session..Why can’t you do that? In favor of the poor, in favor of the employees, we must be effective and efficient,” said Rama.

“Kung wa mo naghuna-huna ana, 2025 is the day of reckoning..so please Sanggunian, make an attention to it,” Rama added.

Rama also mentioned the other bonuses he wanted to give after the supposed P50,000 per employee had not been given the go signal. This is in exchange for the hard work of the employees although out, Rama said.

“Work hard, work had…so that May will come and a bonus will be given..June 12, work hard, work hard, so that bonus will be given,” said Rama.

The mayor said, when he promises, he works it out on it to fulfill it.

“Mas bali pang mahurot ang kwarta sa City Hall basta hayag ang City Hall, hayag ang tibuok syudad, limpyo ang tibuok syudad..Mao na akong utok..kaysa kawat…kaysa kawat..Paminaw gyud mo nako!” stressed Rama.

To emphasize his point further, the mayor later segregated the employees asking who among them had their own houses, those who have more, and those who are having difficulties making ends meet.

Based on the groupings, the majority of the employees at the City Hall do not have their own houses including the mayor himself and many are relying on loans, thus, they have to have what they deserve.

“Pagmata na…pagmata na..mentras tanto, wapa moabot ang gitawag nga paghusga,” said Rama who reminded everyone to reflect on themselves and what they have done. —/GMR (FREEMAN)
