Farmers receive more support from city government

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City farmers have received an added boost with the City Agriculture Department extending more valuable support to them.

CAD distributed water tanks to different farmers’ associations.

With unpredictable weather, having enough water supply and more storage for it is very valuable to the farmers.

Aside from the water tanks, CAD also distributed hybrid rice seeds to rice farmers in the barangays including those from Cambinocot, Sudlon 1, and Sinsin.

The hybrid rice seeds are good for 15 hectares. This initiative aims to boost rice production in the city.

Farmers will also receive fertilizers according to the size of their farmland.

A total of 20 farmers’ associations, on the other hand, received cassava planting materials.

CAD also concluded yesterday its registry system for the Basic Sector in Agriculture Registration.

CAD had a total of 26 stops for this registration together with the farm input distribution, technical assistance, and free insurance of crops and livestock.

Meanwhile, CAD is also giving assistance to farmers who want to have Artificial Insemination (AI) for their carabaos and cows.

Some farmers have already availed of this free AI so they can have more of their livestock.

— GMR (FREEMAN)
