Lapu-Lapu remains safe from drive-by shooting

CEBU, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) has assured residents that the city remains safe from riding-in-tandem incidents.

Police Colonel Elmer Lim, LCPO director, said they had not recorded any incidents of riding in tandem in the city so far.

He said they continuously monitor the city for any possible entry of such by coordinating with the city's police offices which remain on heightened alert for the matter.

Lim said some of their interventions include conducting routine checkpoints, and foot and mobile patrol deployments, among others.

He also announced that they are now continuously deploying urban patrollers.

There are at least eight urban patrollers team to man the streets night and day, apart from the mobile patrols in the city's entrance and exit areas, said Lim.

Urban foot patrolling was an initiative directed by Police Regional Office-7 director, Brigadier General Jerry Bearis, intending to analyze the actual situation on the ground to respond to peace and security concerns immediately.

Under the measure, a group of police is tasked to man the streets and instructed to smile and greet people to engage in security.

He added that they also have their two teams of Tactical Motorcycle Riders Units (TMRU) on standby day and night.

Earlier this week, at least two were dead in separate shooting incidents in Cebu to unknown gunmen riding a motorcycle.

One fatality includes an asset of the National Bureau of Investigation Central Visayas (NBI-7), who was shot while traversing along the portion of Panganiban and Colon streets in Cebu City. (FREEMAN)
