Man shot by friend in Lorega

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — A supposed to be simple eat-out invitation between friends has turned tragic when one of them shot the other in Barangay Lorega-San Miguel in Cebu City.

The victim was identified as Jose “Dondon” Son, 35, a resident of Maguikay in Mandaue City, while the suspect was only known by a certain nickname “Talan.”

Police Corporal Rhenniel Jay Docejo said on Saturday that they are looking into the angle of a “personal grudge” as the basis of the crime, but he reiterated they are still investigating the true motive for the incident.

Docejo said that based on the victim’s narration, the suspect invited him to eat at a burger store in Lorega on Friday night when suddenly Talan took out his gun and pointed at the latter for no apparent reason.

The victim further narrated that he tried to turn the gun away believing it was just one of the suspect’s jokes.

However, the suspect did pull the trigger and shot him thrice.

“Gitirahan naman sya mao tong murag naka cover siya sa iyahang bukton mao igo yang bukton. Busa mingdagan siya, pagdagan niya gisunod man syag tira kaduha,” said Docejo.

He said Son sustained gunshot wounds, particularly in his left arm and back, but he is now stable and is currently admitted to a hospital in Cebu City.

Collected at the crime scene was one live bullet of a caliber .45 pistol which they submitted to the Regional Crime Laboratory Office (RCLO) Region-7 for further examination.

Docejo said they are not putting out the idea that the two could have had previous arguments, which the victim did not disclose.

Meanwhile, he said they already have information on the suspect’s whereabouts who immediately fled from the scene after the incident.

Docejo said they are now drafting a plan for the suspect’s arrest.

Talan is subject to face charges of frustrated murder once apprehended. — Robhe Jane Yara, GMR (FREEMAN)
