10 police stations told to perform

CEBU, Philippines —  Due to poor performance in the campaign against illegal drugs and gambling, 10 police stations in the province have been called out to improve, or face sanctions.

Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) Deputy Director for Operations Mark Gifter Sucalit, during the Open Line News Media Forum yesterday morning, said they have already directed these police stations to shape up.

The official, however, did not name the 10 police stations that are underperforming.

Sucalit said these police stations have been given an opportunity to improve their operations against illegal drugs and gambling, or face punishment.

“Of course, if there were directives being given to them and yet they will not follow, una may kaso yan. Second, if they will follow but they will just comply for the sake of compliance – meaning promoting mediocrity in the police service – we will not tolerate that. Ang sa atin, the police stations should deliver quality service. Dapat maganda ang operations, continuous ang conduct ng anti-illegal drug operations,” said Sucalit.

The CPPO has given the police stations a timeline to improve, else the station’s Chief of Police (COP) will be held accountable.

“If hindi competent yung COP, we will replace them with officers who are more eager to really serve yung position nila,” said Sucalit.

The provincial police have intensified their operations against illegal drugs, especially after Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia had declared an all-out war against illegal drugs.

Sucalit added they have also given the same focus and intensity in curbing illegal gambling in the province. — GAN (FREEMAN)
