Drugs worth P122.4 million seized; suspect escapes
CEBU, Philippines — Operatives of the Special Operations Unit of the Police Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) seized 18 kilos of suspected shabu worth P122.4 million during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Busay, Cebu City Monday afternoon.
The target of the operation, however, eluded arrest.
Operatives said they closed a transaction with the suspect for two kilos of shabu successfully but the suspect sensed that he was dealing with a poseur buyer so he went out of his vehicle and reportedly flagged down and boarded a motorcycle for hire.
The motorcycle reportedly went to the direction of Barangay Lahug.
Operatives, however, found 16 large packages of suspected shabu inside the suspect’s maroon Toyota Innova.
The drugs confiscated are said to be from a big-time drug lord who is a member of a drug syndicate operating in Central Visayas.
A follow-up operation is being undertaken, as of this writing. Authorities are also tracing the owner of the vehicle the suspect used.- JMO (FREEMAN)
