Street dwellers get free vitamins

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Street dwellers and mendicants received free vitamins from the Cebu City government.

The Cebu City government has continued to keep the street dwellers from sleeping on the sidewalks at night and provide them temporary shelter.

Instead of sleeping in the streets at night, the city government has offered a place for them to sleep around the NOAH Complex at the South Road Properties.

Now, the Cebu City Anti-Mendicancy Office (CCAMO) and partner offices have extended their help to the less fortunate by giving them free vitamins as reported by the city’s Public Information Office.

Aside from that, it was also reported that the personnel from CCAMO was also reported to have rescued a newborn baby together with the mother who gave birth to one of the city’s sidewalks the other day.

Not all those brought to the SRP though are actually homeless, according to the Department of Social Works and Services (DSWS) earlier.

There are others who avail of the free shelter at night that are not actually homeless, but vendors who do not want to go home to their respective homes anymore to save up on money for fare and travelling time.

Even hospital “watchers” living outside Cebu City who are not allowed to stay inside the hospital and are just waiting for their patients to be discharged are also welcome to stay at the temporary shelter.

The city government of Cebu is also providing them free transportation to and from the SRP.

It is the city government’s aim to free the city from street dwellers, even, hopefully, provide them jobs and hopefully, in the future, permanent homes to stay.
