Couple mistaken for police asset, survives shooting

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  A couple believed to have been mistaken for police assets suffered from gunshot wounds after they were shot Tuesday afternoon inside their house in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.

Police identified the victims as James Salarita Carlon, 31, and his live-in partner Mercy Grace Teologo Creus, 33.

Mambaling Police Station chief Police Major Jonathan Beethooven Taneo said the victims were inside their house when the suspect (name withheld upon the request of the police because of an ongoing operation) barged in and started shooting them.

Carlon was shot to the jaw while Creus was hit in her butt area. Both were immediately rushed to the hospital where they are now recuperating. The suspect, who is just a neighbor of the victims, remains at large as of this writing.

Initial investigation revealed that the victims may have been mistaken by the suspect for police asset.

Creus confessed to the police that her live-in partner is into illegal drugs and that they also have history of using illegal drugs. — Abigail Joyce Ecoben, UV intern and Romeo D. Marantal, FPL (FREEMAN)
