CEBU, Philippines — Some roads in the cities of Cebu and Lapu-Lapu and the municipality of Cordova will be closed on Sunday, August 7, for the Ironman 70.3 Philippines, an international sporting event the Lapu-Lapu City government is hosting.

Chan said the road closure will start at 4 a.m. until 2 p.m. Those that have important things to do that day are advised to leave early.

The mayor is asking everyone’s cooperation and show to the around 2,000 hardcore triathletes from close to 50 countries seeing action on Sunday the Cebuano hospitality.

Residents along the race route are advised to stay at home while also advising dogs and other animal owners to keep them out of the road for the participants’ safety.

Cordova Mayor Cesar “Didoy” Suan echoed Chan’s plea for animal owners to secure their pets and other animals.

Suan thanked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for completing the road concreting along Pilipog-Gabi coastal road, which is part of the route of the Ironman 70.3 action.

The tournament’s bike race will start from Cordova to Cebu City via the newly completed Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway. CCLEX earlier announced that the newest bridge in Cebu will be closed to motorists on August 7 as early as 12 midnight until 1 pm.

Meanwhile, the Cebu City is also closing the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) to vehicle traffic from 5 am to 1 pm or until the last biker is out. The Cebu City Transportation Office also announced that SRP tunnel will be closed.

“No access to SRP. All vehicles going northbound take Laray…All vehicles going to south take Legaspi Street then to Osmena Boulevard then to P. Del Rosario then to N. Bacalso Avenue,” CCTO’s advisory reads. —FPL (FREEMAN)
