CEBU, Philippines — As he enters the 16th Sangguniang Panlungsod, Cebu City Councilor-elect Edgardo “Jaypee” Labella II said among his top priorities is helping the Cebuanos land jobs.

The son of the late mayor Edgardo Labella, who is a neophyte councilor from the north district, expressed his eagerness and enthusiasm to get to work for the people of the city.

“Labor and employment especially kay naigo ta sa pandemic and (typhoon) Odette. So daghan kaayo nawad-an ug trabaho. So this is what I want to accomplish nga daghan-daghan sad jud tag matabangan nga makasulod og trabaho,” said Jaypee.

Jaypee said now is also the time to help senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) to be given again the opportunity to livelihood.

“Now, it is not only limited to the people who are able, but also to the senior citizens and PWDs nga matagaan sad nato’g chance nga maka work sad sila ug balik. Sa kung kinsa’y gusto motrabaho pa,” he added.

Jaypee vowed to craft ordinances related to labor and employment which could benefit the city residents.

“Now from my point of view, the ordinances which I will be making is more on labor and employment. And, on how to expand it and how to help more people nga makasulod aning mga kompanya,” he said.

“And, maghimo sad nya kog ordinance nga Cebu City for Cebu City. Tagaan gyud og priority sa Cebu City ang mga lumolupyo ug ang mga namuyo sa Cebu City,” he added.

Jaypee is also aiming to be the chairman of the City Council’s Committee on Labor, Employment, Cooperative, and Livelihood.

However, he also disclosed that according to Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia, he could also be the chairman of the Committee on Information and Communication Technology, which was previously chaired by now Congressman Eduardo Rama, Jr.

“But there will still be adjustments. Pero mao gyud na ang labor and employment jud akong i-fight para makuha nako ang chairmanship sa committee,” said Jaypee.

During the May 9, 2022 national and local elections, Jaypee garnered a total of 114, 117 votes in the north district.

The newly elected councilor hopes that there will be unity in the new City Council, stressing that both the majority and minority councilors have to work together for the betterment of Cebu City. — JMD (FREEMAN)
