CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has urged public not to respond to a fake Instagram account that uses her name and profile picture.

The governor posted a screenshot of a conversation between a netizen and the said fake account which has an account username of “gwendolyn_garciia.”

In the screenshot, the poser account solicited from the netizen some funds.

“Can you be able to help with the said amount for the fundraiser?” the poser account misrepresenting Garcia asked the netizen.

“Good to hear that, I’m impressed, I’m contacting as pertaining the non-government organization fund raising going on, I’m imploring every citizen to help…” the poser account added on the said conversation.

The screenshot posted by Garcia about the said fake IG account user seems to be new in Instagram and has no followers nor posts.

Garcia was quick to disown the said fake social media account and asked the public to report it.

“This is a FAKE ACCOUNT – do not respond. Please report and block,” Garcia posted with the screenshots of the conversation.

Sugbo News, the Capitol’s news portal, also reminded the public to be aware of the fake accounts.

“This is a fake Instagram account posing as Gov. Gwen Garcia and using her Facebook profile photo. Please be advised that these messages did not come from the governor or anyone working for her," the Capitol’s news arms said on its Facebook page. – JMD (FREEMAN)
