Zafra sets regular visits to the barangays

Mary Ruth R. Malinao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Reelected Cebu City Councilor Phillip Zafra has assured that the public can have easy access on him as he would make sure that he will have time to reach them to address their concerns.

During the May 9, 2022 elections, Zafra garnered 141,686 votes from the city’s South District.

The councilor, in an interview with the city’s Public Information Office (PIO), thanked all those who believed in him and ensured that he will continue to serve the city and its constituents.

“Rest assured nga dili ni nako pakyason, then padayon ako nga mangalagad kaninyo. Ato nang usbon ang mantra nga, kasagaran moingon mo sa politiko nga ‘sayon duolon pero lisod pangitaon’,” said Zafra.

Zafra said he will have visits in the different barangays of the city to hear the respective concerns of its residents.

“For me, dili lang kay sayon duolon…kami gyud ang moduol ninyo, kay kami may inyong sulogoon. Pasabot ana, moabot gyud didto sa kinauyokan sa barangay, dili na kinahanglan nga moari pa sila, mosang-at sa ilang problema dinhi…Ako mismo will go out on my own way to check and to assess sa panginahanglan sa atong katawhan,” he said.

Zafra said he has a schedule of which barangay to visit in a specific date because he believes that it is much better if he would personally see the problems being faced in an area and help address such.

“Usahay man gud dili mainsakto ang pag-relay kon magsalig lang mi sa among staff ug ubang kaigsoonan didto. Dili gyud makumpleto ang pag-relay nato, dili sad masakto ang pagtubag sa mga suliran,” said Zafra.

“Whereas, kung kami gyud mismo, ako mismo ang makakita sa ilang sitwasyon, then, mas tukma ang akong mahimo diha sa hawanan sa konseho sa pag-address sa maong problema,” he added.

Zafra was the author of the Cebu City ID Ordinance and Food Security Ordinance, among others. He also authored an ordinance for the establishment of Botika sa Barangay.

For his new term, he is aiming to help for the establishment of the Cebu City College, and to implement measures regarding more scholarships the city could possibly provide.

Zafra hopes to retain his chairmanship on the City Council’s committee on public order and he also hopes to chair the committee on education. — GMR (FREEMAN)
