Cogon Pardo chief Rama’s pick for Liga president

Sanden J. Anadia - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Cogon Pardo, Cebu City barangay captain Harry Eran is Mayor Michael Rama’s top choice for president of the Liga ng mga Barangays in Cebu City.

If this materializes, Eran would become an ex-officio member of the City Council.

At the moment, the position is being held by Kasambagan barangay captain Franklyn Ong, who is identified as BOPK ally.

According to Rama, he has great confidence in Eran’s ability so he (Eran) will “definitely do his best to make Eran as an ex-officio member of the City Council.”

For his part, Eran was grateful for Rama’s confidence in his capacity to serve.

“Mapasalamaton ko sa atong mayor sa iyang salig nga gihatag kanato (I am thankful to Mayor Rama for his trust on us),” Eran said, adding that this would still go through extensive discussion in the party.

Eran said that if he becomes the leader of the Liga ng mga Barangay, one of his goals is to provide more benefits for the captains, especially with their membership in the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).

If he also gets the position, he promises to pay a visit to the villages to find out the problems that deserve attention.

Eran ran but lost in the race to the council during the last May 9, 2022 elections. He was under the banner of Rama’s Partido Barug-PDP Laban.

Other than Eran, the other candidates of the party in the south won in their bids: Donaldo “Dondon” Hontiveros, Jocelyn Pesquera, Philip Zafra, Renato Osmeña Jr., James Cuenco, Rey Gealon, and Francis Esparis.
