Candidates urged to help clean the city of campaign posters

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebuano voters as well as all the candidates—both winners and losers--in the just concluded National and Local Elections are urged to do their part in cleaning up the city of their campaign materials.

Atty. Jigo Dacua, head of the Cebu City Department of Public Services, said that everyone, especially the candidates, should help clean the city of campaign posters and other election wastes.

Dacua said that DPS personnel were immediately deployed to different polling places on Monday after the voting was over. Before the elections, Mayor Michael Rama gave the order to all the department heads to ensure that areas where political activities are held-- whether aligned with their party or not--should be cleaned right away.

Sample ballots were scattered all over the polling places during the elections. There were also other types of garbage generated from stalls selling foods and drinks outside the polling centers the whole day on Monday.

“Gikapoy intawon mga tiglimpyo nato gikan sa mga grand rallies and series of events leading to election day. Ato silang tagaan og break pinaagi sa saktong pagtapig sa atong basura ug dili pag hugaw-hugaw,” Dacua posted on Facebook.

Together with DPS, members of the Cebu Environmental Sanitation and Enforcement Team (CESET) have also started the clearing of streamers and campaign posters. They started clearing the Osmeña Boulevard area yesterday. — FPL (FREEMAN)
