Talisay City now COVID-free

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The City of Talisay is now finally COVID-free but the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) is yet to verify its data with regards to the city’s alert level.

The remaining two COVID-19 positives, one from Barangay Lawaan 3 and another one from Barangay Poblacion have already recovered, a report from the city’s Public Information Office revealed Monday.

Talisay City has recorded a total of 6,636 since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with most of them being able to recover.

Unfortunately, though, 372 of them succumbed to the disease including some of its COVID-19 frontliners.

To prevent the severity of the disease and death, Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. continues to call on to Talisaynons who have not yet been vaccinated to get the vaccines as soon as they can except today (May 3) which is a holiday.

Vaccination sites for adults and 12-17 years-olds include Gaisano Laray from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Lagtang gym from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Starmall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All of the vaccination sites mentioned will cater first and second dose of the primary series as well as booster shots.

Children 5 to 11 years-olds, on the other hand, will be at Talisay City College from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“I highly encourage everyone to get the vaccine when it’s available so that we could continue moving forward sa atong tagsa-tagsa ka kinabuhi ug para atong mapadayon ang kalamboan diri sa atong pinalanggang syudad sa Talisay,” said Gullas.

On the other hand, The Freeman learned that the alert status of Talisay City has already been reviewed.

After being downgraded to alert level 1 middle of April, it suddenly was left out in the latest classification. It is not also clear whether or not they are rejoining Cebu Province to alert level 2.

“This was discussed this morning and Sec. Vince Dizon will have it reviewed,” said DOH-VII’s chief pathologist and spokesperson of the Visayas Vaccination Operations Center, Dr. Mary Jean Loreche. — GMR (FREEMAN)
