CEBU, Philippines — The Bantayan Police Station in Cebu Province is now conducting an investigation into a vehicular accident involving a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) president.

The cops want to see if the SK president of Santa Fe, 27-year-old Jessie Ladeth Batiancila Contento, has liabilities over the death of his passenger.

“Right now ongoing atong pag investigate whether or not to file case sa katong driver. Atong na identify namatay, pasahero niya, then siya ang driver,” said Police Major Wendell Abellana, chief of Bantayan police.

The incident happened at around 7:50 p.m. on February 28, 2022 along the Provincial Road in Barangay Tamiao, Bantayan.

The police identified the fatality as certain Gildo Ilustrisimo Espinosa, 28, a resident of Purok Gemilina, Barangay Pooc, Sta.Fe, Cebu.

Police said Contento and Espinosa were on their way to Sante Fe from Madridejos when their vehicle suddenly rammed into a coconut tree.

Abellana said they want to know if Contento was recklessly driving as he appeared intoxicated when the incident happened.

“Amoy alak,” said Abellana recalling the smell of Contento when the police responded.

Aside from this, they are also looking into an information received that Contento came from a drinking spree in Madridejos.

“Atong tan-awon if negligent ba sya or diri tas imprudence, lahi-lahi man na nga aspect,” said Abellana.

Further, Abellana said whether or not the family of the fatality decide to pursue the investigation, the police will still proceed based on the facts of their ongoing investigation. — KQD (FREEMAN)
