Gatchalian vows better education, cheap electricty

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Senator Sherwin Gatchalian wants to continue fighting for better education and affordable electricity to the Filipinos if given a fresh mandate in the May 9 elections.

The reelectionist senator made the promise in his message read by his brother, Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian, to the members of the Philippine Councilors League-Cebu Federation during an assembly in Cebu City yesterday.

Senator Gatchalian was supposed to grace the event but was pressed with other important matters in Iloilo paving the way for his younger brother to come on his behalf. If reelected, Gatchalian said he will continue the efforts he made in line with education and energy.

Senator Gatchalian had been working on free higher education, empowering the Alternative Learning System (ALS) and access to education to youngsters with disabilities.

“We all know na the COVID situation has set us back so much di ba, na yung mga kabataan natin hirap-hirap sa distance learning, and we know with the cases going down we’re really hoping to bring them back to face to face learning so Sherwin believes that magagamit pa siya doon, mayroon pa siyang mako-contribute para matulungan at magabayan as we go back to the new normal ika nga,” Mayor Gatchalian said.

The senator is reportedly looking for ways to give remedial learning for students aside from all those modules assisted by their parents.

“We have to explore program as opinion ni Senator Sherwin, where in we can do remedial learning to make up lost months, or lost learning months na nangyari.Iiba yung mag-aral sa loob ng paaralan, iba yung mag-aral sa tahanan bagamat natututo ka and maganda yun kasi ang una mong guro ay iyong nanay iba rin yung skills set na nakukuha mo in the classroom. We have to look into that and yun yung gusto niya pagtuonan ng pansin sabi nga niya sana makasama niya sa pagbangon muli yung education sector natin,” Mayor Gatchalian added.

Aside from that, Senator Gatchalian, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy, also continues to work on making the ‘Murang Kuryente Act’ felt by the people.

“He’s been doing a lot of work for energy, tapos he’s also been promoting micro-grid, which yung mga areas natin na walang access to power generators they can organize themselves into micro-grid without the bureaucracy coming in to the way and then pangatlo, helping set up more energy sources or power sources, medyo bureaucratic yun isa sa mga batas na naipasa niya making sure mabilis yung pag-process ng permit kapag ikaw ay magtatayo ng power gen,” the mayor said. — Decemay Padilla, FPL (FREEMAN)
