Romeo D. Marantal - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Janjan Moko, the suspect in the killing of his live-in partner and the latter’s 15-year-old daughter, was killed in an alleged shootout with the police yesterday afternoon.

Moko was accused of shooting his partner Jenelyn Bontilao and her daughter Hannah Ouano in their house in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City last January 31. The shooting also left a certain Joana Oano wounded.

In a joint operation conducted by the Abella Police Station and Regional Special Operation Group at 1:50 p.m. yesterday in Barangay Pasil, Cebu City, Moko allegedly shot it out with the authorities.

Police Major Armando Labora, chief of Abellana police, said the operation was hatched after they received information about an armed person in the area morning that day.

“Mao to nagkaroon ng encounter. Kining bataa di ka kompyasahan kay considering armed and dangerous,” said Labora.

Labora said the pursuit of the suspect lasted for three to four hours because the latter was very elusive. In fact, CCTV footages showed that he frequently changed his clothes.

Labora said a concerned citizen had tipped the police of Moko’s presence in Pasil, which led to the operation.

Moko suffered gunshot wounds, which caused his death.

Police were able to recover Moko’s gun.

To recall, gunshots broke the silence of dawn last Monday and awakened residents of sitio San Roque in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Moments later, Jennelyn Bontilao, 31, and her daughter, Hannah, 15, were found dead inside their rented room. Bontilao’s other daughter, Joanna, 11, is in critical condition as of this writing. She was hit in the head.

According to Bontilao’s sister, neighbors saw the victim’s live-in partner, a certain Jan-Jan Moko, fleeing from the crime scene after the gunshots. — JMD (FREEMAN)
