CEBU, Philippines —  Some private companies are assisting the Metropolitan Cebu Water District in its water supply distribution in barangays within their franchise area.

Edna A. Inocando, MCWD Public Information Division Manager, told The Freeman yesterday that these private companies are using their respective water tanker.

“Pero ang water nga ila gi-distribute is MCWD water taken from fire hydrants. Kay nagtuo man gud ang mga tawo nga ilaha sa private companies ang water nga ila gi-distribute, MCWD intawon na,” Inocando said.

MCWD also reported that as of 12:45 noon Monday, restored water production is 73.1 percent or 175,541 cubic meters partially produced.

It said that a total of 101 barangays served out of 153 or 66 percent partially restored water supply.

MCWD added that of the 138 total wells that they have, 86 or 62.3 percent are already operational and of the 86, 52 are powered by the Visayan Electric (Veco) while 35 are generator set operated and the Tisa filter plant.

“The rest are awaiting for gensets to be installed once Veco has energized some of the wells nga dunay gen set kay ibalhin pod didto sa wala pa maka-operate,” Inocando added.

Meanwhile, as of 12 noon Monday, Veco was able to energize 132,397 out of the 474,182 affected customers.

The power distributor has also restored 388 or 71.3 percent out of the 544 power line segments, within its franchise area.

“Restoration is taking longer in areas where Visayan Electric’s distribution facilities sustained heavy damage such as toppled poles, downed wires, and damaged transformers,” said Veco in its Facebook post.

Also, in Lapu-Lapu City, the Uniteam of presidential aspirant, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his runningmate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, has formally turned over the donations for the city residents through Lapu-Lapu City Lone Representative Paz Radaza.

Radaza received the P1 million cash donations, 2,000 sacks of rice and 10 sacks of slippers.

“I would like to thank Mayor Inday and Sir Bongbong for these relief goods and cash donations that you donated for the Lapu-Lapu City, dako na kaayo ni nga tabang para sa mga Oponganon," Radaza said.

Radaza added that the 2,000 sacks of rice will be turned over to the 19 barangays in the mainland and the P1 million will be used to purchase rice for the 11 barangays in Olango Island including the three islets in Caohagan, Caubian and Pangan-an.
