Talisay bids goodbye to face shields
CEBU, Philippines — The Talisay City government has foregone with the requirement of wearing face shield in public places.
In an executive order, Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas lifted the policy requiring residents to wear face shields when they go out of their houses.
However, the face shield policy will remain in place in hospitals, birthing centers, medical and dental clinics, and diagnostic and medical facilities.
As for commercial establishments, the mayor has given the concerned managements the discretion on whether to enforce the face shield policy or not.
Gullas said the lifting of face shield rule came following the request of various sectors, especially the private sector.
The mayor said this new directive is meant to help the local businesses to cope amid the pandemic.
He also said that the purpose of wearing the face shield has not been served since it has been observed that some would only wear them properly the moment they enter the establishments. Once inside, the shields are then removed.
Despite his new order, Gullas urged Talisay residents not to be complacent as, according to him, the coronavirus is still very much around.
He also encouraged those who have not received their vaccines to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
MINORS
Meanwhile, the municipal government of Consolacion has vaccinated over 1,000 minors aged 12-17 against COVID-19 since the rollout started last Friday.
Consolacion Mayor Joannes “Joyjoy” Alegado said he was happy to see that there was a big turnout of vaccinees when he visited the vaccination site recently.
Because of the support shown by the minors and their parents, Alegado said the local government unit is planning to install more vaccinate sites in other places, which will be specially intended for minors.
Right now, the vaccination for minors is being held on the second floor of SM Consolacion. Vaccination for other members of the population is also ongoing in the same site.
Aside from SM, another vaccination site was set up at the Municipal Covered Court.
According to Alegado, the municipality is targeting to vaccinate 5,853 minors aged 12-17.
The also invited those residents who have not been vaccinated to do so in order to help achieve herd immunity. —Romeo T. Limpangog/JMD (FREEMAN)
