EOC data showed there are 377 active cases in Cebu City as of October 18.

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu City’s active COVID-19 cases are now down to less than 400, about 60 of whom are in the hospitals, Cebu City Emergency Operations Center and City Councilor Joel Garganera said.

EOC data showed there are 377 active cases in Cebu City as of October 18.

The number is expected to go down further once the status of some of the cases will be validated.

The city’s most recent positivity rate was 3.79% (25 of 660 tested turned out positive), which is below the 5% threshold of the World Health Organization.

The data showed that most of the new cases fall under the 21-30 age bracket. Six are 60 and above, two are 11-20, another two are 31-40, and four are 41- 50.

Also, only 55 of the city’s 80 barangays have registered a case over the last 14 days.

The five barangays with the most active cases are Guadalupe with 27 active cases, Talamban with 15, Camputhaw and Tisa with 14, and Lahug with 12.

Garganera was also happy to report that hospitals in Cebu City as a whole are now operating at 24.48% critical care utilization rate, which means that the situation is manageable.

The other active cases in Cebu City are isolated in the barangay isolation centers (53 of them) while others are at the Cebu City Quarantine Center (15) and in hotels (46).

The first 18 days of October saw 19 deaths as compared to last month when there were 127 deaths for the entire period.

Garganera said that despite these positive developments, Cebuanos should not be complacent. He said they should observe health protocols such as social distancing, regular washing of hands, wearing of face masks, and even face shields if needed. — JMD (FREEMAN)
