Senior Inspector Crisyrel Awe, the city jail warden, said 1,600 PDLs (1,400 males and 200 females) received their vaccines.

CEBU, Philippines —  All persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Talisay City Jail were already inoculated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Senior Inspector Crisyrel Awe, the city jail warden, said 1,600 PDLs (1,400 males and 200 females) received their vaccines.

He said the correctional facility has no active coronavirus cases.

He attributed this to the suspension of inmates’ visitation privileges.

The suspension took effect three weeks ago.

“Sulod sa tulo ka semana, zero cases na human gibawal ang pagsud sa mga bisita sa mga binilanggo,” said Awe.

He said they will continue implementing the restriction to ensure the safety of the PDLs and jail officers.

“Sa pagkakaron, padayon nato nga gibawal ang dalaw aron magpabilin nga COVID-free ang atong pasilidad,” he said.

In July this year, some PDLs and jail personnel contracted the virus.

This prompted the jail management to enforce strict security and health measures, including the suspension of visitation. — KQD (FREEMAN)
