Four of 15 Cebu City hospitals at critical level

CEBU, Philippines —  Medical facilities in Cebu City are at moderate risk at 62.1 percent overall, as far as critical utilization rate for COVID-19 is concerned, but four of them are already at critical level, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

Three of the four hospital at critical level are private hospitals – Adventist Hospital at 89.7 percent, Cebu North General Hospital at 95.5 percent, and St. Vincent Hospital at 85.7 percent. The fourth, the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, a public hospital, is at 85.6 percent.

Vicente Sotto Hospital’s expanded bed capacity for COVID-19 is now 86.5 percent utilized. It’s ICU beds dedicated for COVID cases are now 79.2 percent utilized.

Hospitals that are at high risk are Cebu Doctor’s University Hospital 71.2 percent and St. Anthony Mother and Child Hospital at 81. percent.

The Visayas Community Medical Center is at moderate risk at 61.1 percent.

Isolation beds at the Adventist Hospital are full while the ICU beds of Perpetual Succour Hospital, Visayas Community Medical Center, and North General Hospital are also full.

Based on data from the Emergency Operations Center, Cebu City has 2,839 active cases and eight deaths in August, so far.

EOC’s deputy chief implementer, Councilor Joel Garganera, also noted that the number of deaths recorded in July alone has reached 82.

As of Wednesday, August 4, at least 74 of the city’s 80 barangays have active cases.

Based on the DOH bulletin, however, Cebu City still has 3,054 active cases; Lapu-Lapu has 1,286; Mandaue has 1,139; and Cebu Province has 3,187. — JMO (FREEMAN)
