CEBU, Philippines —  At least 100 Carbon market vendors affected by the P5.5-billion modernization project in Cebu City have been given their stall certificates.

Irvin Cabales, the city’s Market Operations Division (MOD) head, said the certificate is the assurance they hold that they can continue selling at the interim market, the Carbon Market Unit II in Barangay Ermita, while the city’s oldest and largest market is being modernized.

The retrofitting of the interim market, which will accommodate at least 570 regular stall holders and a space for ambulant vendors, is set to be completed by October or November this year.

In total, over 700 stall owners from the Freedom Park and Warwick’s Barracks received their stall certificates from the city government and the Megawide Construction Corporation.

Louie Ferrer, chief corporate affairs and branding officer of the Megawide Construction Corp., earlier said the Phase 1 of Carbon Public Market modernization project is seen to be finished before the year ends.

Phase 1 includes the construction of a multi-level parking structure, which will have about 250 parking spaces for cars and 200 for motorcycles; its ground level will serve as a staging area for e-trikes and karumata, which will help decongest Quezon Boulevard and address the parking needs for Carbon and City Hall. — Linalen Quirong, UV Intern, KQD (FREEMAN)
