CEBU, Philippines — After over a year, the Guadalupe-Oppra access bridge in Cebu City is now open to vehicular traffic.

It serves as an access road from some parts of Barangay Guadalupe to Barangays Kalunasan, Capitol Site and Lahug.

It was shut down in March last year to control the movement of residents due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The reopening of the said access bridge was approved by the members of the Barangay Council during last week’s session.

Barangay Guadalupe Captain Michael Gacasan said the council decision was based on the approval of the police.

Thee low infection rate in the barangay prompted the officials to finally open the access bridge.

“Niminos naman ang kaso nato ron maong nitugot na kita nga paagian na og balik ang bridge,” he said.

Also, the access bridge’s reopening is seen to decongest the traffic gridlocks in some areas of the neighboring barangays, especially in peak hours.

While the COVID-19 cases have started to drop, Gacasan said the minimum health protocols must still be observed.

“Bisan pa man nga nigamay ang kaso dili gihapon ta mokompyansa. Naa pa man ang virus busa motuman gyud ta sa health protocols,” he said.

To recall, Guadalupe also implemented the Sunday Lockdown in the first quarter of this year after COVID-19 cases went up reportedly due to holiday gatherings.

The order was lifted just last month when number of cases dropped.  — KQD (FREEMAN)
