Ex-CPA dep’t manager shot dead
CEBU, Philippines — A former department manager at the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) was shot dead inside his house last Sunday night in Barangay Poblacion, Argao.
The police identified the victim as certain Claro Ramos Cagigas, 65, a resident of the place.
According to the report from the Argao Municipal Police Station, Cagigas was sitting at the terrace of his house around 7:10 p.m. when an unknown perpetrator barged in and shot him.
Cagigas, who sustained a gunshot wound to his head, was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police Corporal Ariel Conde, investigator on case, said they are initially eyeing personal grudge as possible motive behind the murder.
Conde said they received reports that Cagigas has around P1 million loan from a person they refused to identify pending the investigation.
“Naa na siyay nakontra, naka-away nga nalutsan na og warrant, daku og utang mga P1 million, naay utangan niya ana nga kantidara, kay nagpautang mani siya og kwarta,” said Conde.
As of this writing, the police are attempting to open Cagigas’ cellular phone as they continue to identify the unidentified perpetrator.
Meanwhile, the CPA and former colleagues have expressed their sympathy to Cagigas’ family in a Facebook post.
“Today, we mourn the passing of our former Port Management Department Manager Claro R. Cagigas, Jr.,” the post read.
“His contributions to the Authority have left a huge mark and we will forever be grateful. Rest in Peace Sir Jun,” the post added. — GMR (FREEMAN)
